Tracy Zappala is an accredited professional genealogist specializing in African American research and U.S. mid-South genealogy. Her passion is helping families connect to their enslaved ancestors, solving long-standing mysteries, and preserving the stories of African American ancestors for future generations. Tracy currently runs her own consulting company, Gen-X-Genealogy. Prior to this, Tracy worked with Ancestry, working with hundreds of clients. She served as lead genealogist for episodes of Who Do You Think You Are? featuring Regina King and Allison Janney, and she supported additional BBC projects exploring Windrush ancestral migration to the United Kingdom. Her work is also featured in an award-winning documentary with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. that celebrates Juneteenth and is called “A Dream Delivered: The Lost Letters of Hawkins Wilson.”
Tracy will be a featured speaker at the Washington DC Family Search Center booth at the 5th Annual Kensington Juneteenth Celebration. The event will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026 at St. Paul Park, Kensington, MD, 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
